TEHRAN- The Irish president on Tuesday paid tribute to the victims of the Kerman terrorist attacks by signing a memorial book at the Iranian embassy in Dublin.

During his meeting with Kazem Sharif Kazemi, the Iranian charge d'affaires, President Michael D. Higgins expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and condemned the heinous act of terrorism. He also highlighted the strong historical ties between Ireland and Iran, emphasizing the importance of peace and dialogue in resolving conflicts.

The Irish President also praised Iran's rich culture and civilization, noting that the two countries have a long history of good relationship.

President Higgins concluded his remarks by reiterating his call for peace and reconciliation in the West Asia region. 

On January 3, two deadly explosions struck a procession of mourners commemorating the fourth anniversary of the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani by the U.S. in 2020 near Baghdad’s international airport. The explosions, carried out by two suicide bombers,  claimed the lives of 91 people and left 284 injured. 

The blasts occurred just 700 meters from the general's tomb in Kerman's Martyrs' Golzar cemetery. One day after the blasts, the terrorist Daesh group claimed responsibility for the attacks.
